MEMOTONEWS - The first shallot plants in a number of demonstration plots in the Mandiraja and Purwonegoro Districts have now been harvested.
The results were quite satisfying, even according to Saefudin, a distributor from Brebes, the shallots from Mandiraja and Purwonegoro have the same features or qualities.
Namely, the color of the onion tends to be bright and fresh. It smells more fragrant and coarse, making it great for making fried onions.
With these harvests, Banjarnegara's shallots are not inferior in quality to Brebes' onions. Even better.
"Shallots will yield maximum results if planted in the dry season. Party at the end of the sixth month (June) and in August," said Saefudin.
He also explained, if fertilization is more optimal, the results will increase again. "If fertilization is carried out periodically, each 50-tile area can reach up to 7 kwital," he said.
Meanwhile, Ristanto, a farmer who is also a pioneer in the development of shallot commodity in Kaliwungu (Banjarnegara) said that the initial harvest at his demonstration plot was quite encouraging.
"When viewed from the quality side, according to the onion expert from Brebes, the results are better than those in other areas such as Pati and even Brebes as a shallot center.
Currently in Banjarnegara, there are 30 onion farmers spread in three sub -districts, namely Mandiraja, there are 5 places, namely Kaliwungu Village, Somawangi, Panggisari, Banjengan and Simbang..
Then in Purwonegoro District there are two Villages namely Kaliajir and Purwonegoro. Purworejo Klampok sub-district, in the villages of Purworejo Klamlok and Kalicacing. Meanwhile, the Susukan area is still in years
Admittedly, the care and fertilization of onion plants is quite extra. Even when the onion plant is exposed to rain, it must be watered with plain water to avoid leaf disease.
"Alhamdulillah, for the first harvest on an area of 200 tiles or (1/2 ha) the results are good. And one of our missions is to create jobs in rural areas," said Ristanto who is also a teacher.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and KP Banjarnegara, Totok Setya Winarna through the Head of Horticulture and Plantation, Erwien Indriatmoko when asked TIMES Indonesia Thursday night (14/4/2021)
He also appreciated the efforts of farmers to try breakthroughs in developing shallots in Banjarnegara.
"At the moment there is no facilitation for the development of shallots in 2021. However, we will try to propose, if there are suggestions from farmer groups," said Erwin, Head of Horticulture and Plantation.
